Vincent Callebaut Architectures receives the “Sustainable Green Good Design 2026” Award for Tao Zhu Yin Yuan in Taipei

Vincent Callebaut Architectures is honored to announce that the Tao Zhu Yin Yuan residential tower in Taipei has been awarded the prestigious “Sustainable Green Good Design 2026” distinction by The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design.

Founded in 1950 in Chicago, the Good Design Award is one of the world’s oldest and most recognized programs for design excellence. The “Green Good Design” program, developed in collaboration with The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies, specifically recognizes innovative projects that advance sustainability, energy efficiency, and ecological responsibility on a global scale.

Located in the Xinyi District of Taipei, Tao Zhu Yin Yuan stands as a manifesto for a new generation of regenerative architecture. Inspired by the double helix structure of DNA, the tower’s twisted geometry is not merely symbolic but deeply performative. Each rotation of the structure responds to environmental constraints, optimizing solar exposure, natural ventilation, and urban airflow.

The project integrates advanced environmental strategies, including passive bioclimatic design, extensive planted terraces, and carbon absorption systems. The tower hosts thousands of trees and shrubs, forming a vertical forest that contributes to air purification, urban biodiversity, and microclimate regulation. Through its design, Tao Zhu Yin Yuan actively participates in reducing atmospheric CO₂ while enhancing the quality of life for its residents.

The use of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) has played a key role in shaping the building’s aerodynamic behavior. By working with natural forces rather than opposing them, the architecture channels wind flows, reduces turbulence, and improves environmental comfort at both the building and urban scale.

Fondé en 1950 à Chicago, le Good Design Award compte parmi les programmes de récompense les plus anciens et les plus reconnus au monde dans le domaine du design. Le programme « Green Good Design », développé en collaboration avec le European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies, distingue plus particulièrement les projets innovants qui contribuent à faire progresser la durabilité, l’efficacité énergétique et la responsabilité écologique à l’échelle mondiale.

Implantée dans le district de Xinyi à Taipei, Tao Zhu Yin Yuan s’affirme comme le manifeste d’une nouvelle génération d’architecture régénérative. Inspirée de la structure en double hélice de l’ADN, la géométrie torsadée de la tour n’est pas seulement symbolique, elle est profondément performative. Chaque rotation de la structure répond aux contraintes environnementales, optimisant l’ensoleillement, la ventilation naturelle et les flux d’air urbains.

Le projet intègre des stratégies environnementales avancées, parmi lesquelles une conception bioclimatique passive, de vastes terrasses plantées et des dispositifs d’absorption du carbone. La tour accueille des milliers d’arbres et d’arbustes, constituant une véritable forêt verticale qui contribue à la purification de l’air, à la biodiversité urbaine et à la régulation du microclimat. Par sa conception, Tao Zhu Yin Yuan participe activement à la réduction du CO₂ atmosphérique tout en améliorant la qualité de vie de ses habitants.

L’utilisation de la dynamique des fluides numérique, ou CFD, a joué un rôle déterminant dans la définition du comportement aérodynamique du bâtiment. En travaillant avec les forces naturelles plutôt qu’en s’y opposant, l’architecture canalise les flux d’air, réduit les turbulences et améliore le confort environnemental à l’échelle du bâtiment comme à celle de la ville.
