>From the putting in space of the sensorial geographies of âEcstacityâ, to the holographic cloud of the NATO headquarters parameterized by the interactive democracy in the heart of the Grand-Place in Brussels, the virtual Archibiotics of this chapter imagine the cyberpace of tomorrow. This buzzword reflects our true digitized universe of information and communication fluctuating according to the worldwide interconnexion of the internet users and conferring them the gift for ubiquity. Thus, the individual personalities, clones and avatars open out and multiply indefinitely enabling to two people or a group of internet users with multiple identities to communicate from anywhere and whenever and at any distance that separates them.
The objective of the researches of Vincent Callebaut is thus to spatialize the interface of these exchanges to get definitively out of the plasmatic screen with bi-dimensional surface and resolutely square angles! As the metaverse of Second Life (forum where the social and political commitments are expressed on a free and international way) the World Wild Web would develop finally in tree dimensions. This setting in space would enable to organise debates, exhibitions, conferences, trainings, recruitments or weddings in holographic immersive spaces implementing the contemporary reality by a constant dialogue
The streets of our cities are covered by kilometres of optic fibres. Cameras observe us. Doors open by electronic captors that detect the least of our movements. The invisible is pierced by the weaves of the cordless network whereas our trips can be deciphered in detail by the electronic traces left by our chip card and our systems of spatial information. The humanoids that we became by automating us, set up new modes of collaboration and organisation to meet, dialogue, collaborate, exchange and love each other. The worldwide urban metabolism accelerates and the architects must invent from urban databases of new consensual strategies of planning. These are based on the social auto-organisation tolerating the incertitudes (see also the following chapter Â«Growing ProcessÂ»). The immaterial metadata of the knowledge induce our real world!
The mutualisation of the individual knowledge enables a better transfer of the knowledge. In order to set up this transfer, the digital Archibiotics are projects experiencing on the one hand the translation of the numeric space in the real world by interactive 3D projection and on the other hand the transformation of an information space in a physical reality from the planning of urban data. Overriding the duality between the real and the virtual, the contemporary urbanity is synthesising a merge of the city and the cyberspace stimulating new interactive and parameterized interfaces. The streets and the public spaces enters from now on in digital vibration by electronic stimuli reformatting them not only by statistic data but also by sensitive impulsions and democratic fluctuations. The public space hybridizes and offers many opportunities of reappropriation supplied by numerous new technologies of information and communication. The frontiers between employment, entertainment and housing of the day life become blurred through interconnected environments.
The virtual Archiobiotic Â«Sensual Attraction, an Interactive DemocracyÂ» is for example a spontaneous proposal of of alternative plans to the setting up of the NATO headquarters in Brussels. Actually, the concept proposes rather than a Pharaonic construction, an informational and interactive cloud fluctuating under the shape of holographic projection in the box left by the different houses in corporation of the Grand-Place. Numeric impulsion in the historical centre, the mutant cloud becomes a three-dimensional internet forum in real time. Inside, each blogger of NATO (wearing a cloth with electrodes and captors in movement) can intervene by projecting his ideas (sharing of data) and his virtual avatar (tele-presence) so as to build a participative democracy, visible from all in the real space. Each person is equipped of a bodyspace enabling each citizen to participate to this performative space.
The new technologies of information and communication are today completely part of our sensorial system. As medium, they participate to the development of the learning and comprehension of our environment. They enable thus a re-appropriation of the space by the body. In this framework, the Archibiotic Â«Ecstacity, a synaesthesic leisureÂ» imagines a room of 6 faces completely parameterized by the 5 senses. The parameters of the vision, the taste, the smell, the hearing and the touch are vectorised in order to create a space of 3D projection translating the sensations felt by the visitors. And this in order to reach a synaesthesic welfare. The neurological condition is that two or several senses become associated. The music and the sounds for example change into colour or particular shapes. The sweet, salty or sweet-and-sour savours change into texture with a silky, rough or satiny touch. The basses, the ultrasonic sounds and the high frequencies change into delicate flavour of forest, prairie or spices. By digital hallucination, this sensitive room, intelligent matrix, mixes thus the senses through a new neurological experience.
TO AN HUMANBIOTIC â¦
>From the avatar to the bionic humanoid passing by the electro-sensitive being, the humanity looks for a digital identity. The architecture aims at reaching the artificial intelligence so as to produce an intelligent behaviour and also at feeling a real conscious of itself by its own reasoning. The digital Archibiotics become a large Artificial Neural Network optimised by learning methods such as statistic by enriching them with many paradigms. Bu multiplying the synaptic links, it enables to generate large functional, supple, partially structured, numeric spaces and to take decisions based on perceptions.
>From neurosciences to computer sciences, from psychology to philosophy and from linguistics to anthropology, the contemporary architect have to position in the centre of the cognitive sciences so as to understand and study the mechanisms of the human, animal or artificial thought. More generally, the space designer must decipher the functioning of any cognitive system, i.e. any complex system of information treatment able to acquire, keep and communicate this knowledge. By the cognitive sciences, the architect can imitate the phenomenon as diverse as the perception, the intelligence, the language, the calculation, the reasoning or even the consciousnessâ¦ This interdisciplinary field uses thus jointly data coming from many branches from the science to the engineering so as to create interactive atmospheres perceiving and stimulating the way of living of the future mankind.
